First try is a test (soon or late)

Early this morning, a “taho” vendor threads the street as I walked all the way through the university. According to many, “taho” is good for the health.

The ingredients of this food are undoubtedly sumptuous to smell and look at, thus entice especially the kids to buy. I remember my sisters, cousins, and nephews who after hearing the prolonged shout “taaaaaahooooo”, would run outside and look for the vendor, or if the man passes by already, they ran after him.

I love watching them eating “taho”. After few minutes, the food is stored in their tummies.

Accordingly, “taho”, a soya diet food is made of soybeans, gulaman, vanilla, brown sugar and water. They say that such kind of food is high in protein, low in fat and is absolutely low cost.

But I am not one of those who eat “taho”. Yeah, the food looks nice when you see it in its steel container (the one carried by a vendor), the syrup tempts me a lot, but I do not eat “taho”.

Aside from “taho”, another food which I never tried is “balot”. I’m a hundred percent Pinoy but I never ate such which are two of the most certified Filipino foods.

Every afternoon, a “balot” vendor goes to the boarding house to sell his products. While my board mates enjoy eating, I just looked at them and wonder “is balot really delicious?” ‘cause I can see in their faces the happiness and satisfaction of eating.

While they’re enjoying “balot”, I just opt to buy “chicharon”. Well, that crispy Carcar, Cebu delicacy taste good than an egg with a chick on the inside, eeeehhhh…

One time, the son of our landlady showed me how the chick inside the egg looks like. My expression would say “yucky”, but why do they like the chick? Why is it the most delicious element of “balot” (for many)? Ohh, eating a chick for me is like eating a fetus. Sorry to say that.

For many, “taho” and “balot” are really mouth-watering. I won’t say that I will never it these. There will come a time that I will taste these foods also, but not now. I think the first try will be if someone gives me a reward as exchange to the “challenge”. It would be better. I’ll gonna call it, “first taste for a purpose”. Hehe…
