Instant Friendship

It was a gathering, an occasion of meeting and knowing all the student-leaders in each organization existing in the university, e.g. fraternities, religious orgs, special concern, and academic group… we introduced ourselves on the evening of September 18, Friday and at an instance, we became close, as if we know each other for a longer time by now.

I knew them by face but not in name, but I never thought that majority of them will become my close friends at an instant. Not only me, but many could not believe that we’ll be treating ourselves as long time friends starting that night.

We had lectures and it’s good to hear the idea of everybody. Team-building activities such as the unique version of “pass the message” which was done not through whispering the words to ears but by action, the lifting game which required concentration, and the exchanged of names and titles to each group added color and fun to the evening. After every game was reporting and showing of experiences and opinions.

It was already 1:00 am when all the activities for that day were completed. But while the rest were lying peacefully in their beds, I, the Psychology students, and the fraternity leaders were taking advantage of the Videoke rented by LSO. All of those who were still awake that dawn were certified singing addicts despite the voices which were out of tune. We were still energetic though honestly, we were very exhausted.

The sing-a-long did not stop until the next morning, though we only had less three hours of sleep. We had another time for knowing each other during our formal acquaintance.

And the whole afternoon was spent for playing, playing, playing, playing and fun! It started with a game called "Trojan Horse" wherein one member carries another member, run to reach the flag, and go back to the formation while the next players will do the same until they will accomplish 10 turns. Of course, I did my part of carrying one person, and I did it! But the most amazing was that, I was the last one being carried which almost loses our chance to win, but the person who held me managed it well.

Next was the centipede which required synchronization, then the tiring sack race, and the tug of war which sip almost all of our energy. Then there was this eating contest, wherein the king and queen of the group will eat all the breads being served. It’s expected that we’ll finish earlier than them (because you know nah!). So we found the flag first and we sang our yell again, but I then realized that what we ate were breads with a mixture of Nescafe 3in1coffe and afritada spread (but it still tastes like pizza).

The last game followed, and I was chosen as the queen bee that the group will protect from the enemies’ attack. We all ended up wet because of the ice waters, and the last destination was the shallow sea of Camp Sea Side.

But one best thing I did that I'm very proud of was when Dawn (LSO President) surprisingly tasked me to give the closing prayer for the two-day event. I have proven that when you're closing your eyes while praying, you can express everything inside you. And yeah, that was one of the best prayers I did, especially for the group.

Well, it was only an IPR and Acquaintance which will never be forgotten, because at an instant, I was able to meet people whom I know are those who have different worlds, people who are now I consider my friends, close friends!

“Nothing compares to that event and I wanna thank all those whom I shared those days with. I learned a lot from each participant, and I’m glad I knew you!”
