Found friend and counselor

I remember, it was Friday afternoon at the Cebu Capitol when I saw this woman and approached her about the event that was going on inside the social hall.

Strict and haughty—these were my first impressions on her that’s why I tried to be careful with my words and actions. The conversation went on, it turned into a crunchy interview, and she became so informative especially with her background. I then knew that she is the former president of the Cebu Normal University, and currently the consultant for external affairs of the governor of Cebu.

She introduced us to the rest of the event organizers, and thus was the start of our friendship. She continued speaking and with that, I felt her generosity.

She’s workaholic, she told us, but not for herself nor for her family but for others. She said she had to attend three more occasions but she need to prioritize the one held in the Capitol because the governor might not come and she used to deliver a speech as representative of Gwen, but good that the governor arrived from a campaign somewhere far from the city.

She also shared a lot of things about the governor, and before the dinner ended, she invited us for another gathering with her members of ALIVE, an organization of professional educators from different institutions here and in which she is the chairman in Cebu.

I didn’t know what awaits us there, but when I entered the door of the guidance office, I was welcomed by a group of people with attitudes similar to her. That’s why I told myself, “ahh, there are still good people remaining in an urbanized society”. If I were to describe them, I would say each one resembles an image of an angel. Ohh, their smiles are warm, their voices are calm, actions and expressions which I would depict “dili makabuak ug baso” (in the native tongue).

Though they are individuals with ranks and well-respected, still I can see that they do not brag on their achievements and positions. They are different from the other professionals I met. I was very lucky in fact, to have met and knew these people.

But I would like to credit this post to Madam Ester Velasquez. Honestly, she is not hard to befriend with because she is true. What I’m trying to say is, when she converses, it is not mixed with plasticity and everyone for her is treated equally. I just knew her but I can easily sense that she’s a good person.
