I love my place

Seashore—it reminds me of papa, mama, and younger sisters. This is the place where we usually go during the afternoons. This is where my little sisters play, while mama is watching over and papa arranging the piles of stone in front of our “kamalig”, and papa’s most taken cared small tomato and ampalaya farm (a farm near the sea). In short, seashore takes me back to our place—San Juan is a noisy, over-populated place, but this is where I grow and learn to be mature.

Supposed to be, this post is only about the seashore, but since I still want to write, allow me to share with you what this place is.

San Juan is a sitio in La Libertad. Fishing is the main livelihood of dwellers. It’s a very famous place in La Lib because it is complete—gambling, drinking sessions, chaos between husband and wife or among relatives, and other types of foolishness. But despite those, San Juan is still the center of friendship and cooperation among the residents. Though it is situated at the heart of the town, majority of people are living near the poverty line.

San Juan is well-known because of its people, different kinds and attitudes of people which really stand out. It is a place well-dominated with children because every month, none of the women is escaped from pregnancy. In fact, its population is growing faster this time.

In the evening, you will see residents in cluster in different corners. Some are talking, some playing cards or bingo, children playing at the center, some residents staying inside their homes watching TV, some are shouting out their lungs at the videoke, some drinking, some just came from playing basketball, some girls are from outing, some from work, some from just everywhere.

But I'm proud to shout that San Juan is also the settlement of the talented, the intelligent and the industrious though there are undeniably lots of ‘pasaway’ there.

I’m happy that I was raised from that place. I became well-rounded, I know how to mix with people of different ages, I know how to balance, and build confidence and started to create a name. I am also thankful that the people here respect my family, and look at us as paradigm of obedient children, dedicated students, and God-fearing individuals. Here, I am raised with values, and I grow from an environment of love and cooperation.
